With the 66th Primetime Emmys only days away, Gold Derby Editors Rob Licuria, Matt Noble and Charles Bright joined me for a live Best Drama Series slugfest on the Gold Derby home page. We asked for input from our savvy Gold Derby users and read many of your comments and questions live on air. (Watch the slugfest below.)
While we all agree that “Breaking Bad” is the frontrunner (and has been all year), our second-place choices are all across the board. Some of us say “Game of Thrones” is the spoiler, others champion “True Detective,” while some think it’s “House of Cards.” Unfortunately that means “Mad Men” and “Downton Abbey” don’t factor much in our discussion for who’s out front to win.
We also took a moment to recognize the races for Best Drama Directing and Best Drama Writing, where any of series frontrunners could hear their names called. These are usually the races that surprise us the most come Emmy night, so be on the lookout for a shocker or two.
According to Gold Derby’s odds that combine Emmy Experts, Editors and Users, “Breaking Bad” is in first place to win with 2/11 odds, “True Detective” is in second place with 14/1 odds, “Game of Thrones” is in third place with 33/1 odds, “House of Cards” is in fourth place with 50/1 odds, and “Mad Men” and “Downton Abbey” are tied for last place with 100/1 odds.
