On Wednesday, we’ll talk with Taylor Schilling about her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role in the Netflix dramedy “Orange is the New Black.” Join us for our live chat on July 30, at 11:30am PT/2:30pm ET on Gold Derby’s home page.
Schilling stars as Piper Chapman, whose past romance with a drug-smuggler (Laura Prepon) comes back to haunt her when she’s hit with a 15-month prison sentence. A fish out of water at Litchfield Penitentiary, she learns to adapt to her new surroundings and is unexpectedly reunited with her felonious ex.
At the end of the first season, she was fighting off a violent attack by the vengeful Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning). Season two premiered this year on June 6, and it has already been renewed for season three.
Schilling was recently nominated at the Golden Globes for “Orange,” though she contended for Best TV Drama Actress at those awards. Later, Netflix made the surprise decision to enter the series in comedy categories at the Emmys, which paid off not only for Schilling but for the rest of the cast and crew as well. It earned 12 nominations, including Comedy Series, Comedy Writing, Comedy Directing, and acting bids for five of its women.
For Comedy Actress consideration, Schilling submitted the episode “The Chickening” to Emmy judges. In it, Piper becomes fixated on a chicken she sees in the exercise yard, which several inmates are intent on catching. Will she be able to defeat two-time defending Emmy champ Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep“)? Make your predictions below, and come back tomorrow for our live chat.
