  1. Most folks have never even heard of The Humbling, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby or Elsa and Fred, so I really don’t consider that so shocking.

  2. I am upset that Shailene Woodley was overlooked again. The depth of performance cannot be ignored. It is so heart wrenching to see this performance on the screen. She gives so much depth to this character. She brings Hazel Grace off the page into the screen.

  3. One fact that makes Angelina Jolie’s directing snub more understandable: No actor-director has ever received an Oscar nom for Best Director AFTER winning an acting Oscar. Three actor-directors (Laurence Olivier, Roberto Benigni & George Clooney) won for acting the same year they were nommed for directing (same film each for Olivier & Benigni, different films for Clooney), and numerous actor-directors have won for directing but NOT acting; but NO ONE with an acting Oscar has EVER received a directing nom in a later year.

I haven’t seen Unbroken so I can’t say anything about it, but evidently the HFPA thought so little of Jolie becoming a director that they snubbed her film in all categories. Considering the HFPA has long been swayed more by star power than the Academy, that can only be a bad sign for Unbroken’s Oscar chances. (Conversely, it’s a good sign for Ava DuVernay as it seems she won’t be splitting votes with Jolie.)

  4. As I earlier commented in Awards Daily, Angelina aka MALEFICENT should show up, uninvited, in full witch garb, and repeat her lines she said when she gate crashed the party, this time at the castle of the Golden Globes, cast a curse on Miss Golden Globes, a totally redundant honour.
