This past season, the “House of Lies” team went where no cast of a comedy series had gone before: they took part in a long-form improv event. Ben Schwartz convinced some of his co-stars to join him at his alma mater, the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) comedy club, and the result was “House of Lies: Live.” This laughfest aired on Showtime and contends at the Emmys as a variety special.
In our recent webcam chat, Schwartz admitted “it was so exciting for me because it’s my first time of producing a TV thing. The fact that they were willing to go out with no script at all and trust that hopefully I’m going to make this product… it got more people to watch the show and love.”
The third season of “House of Lies,” which aired earlier this year, starred Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Josh Lawson, and Schwartz as a subversive yet effective management consultant team that uses any means necessary to get clients the information they want.
With Emmy ballots in hands now, watch the special below to see whether it deserves to make it in the race.
