Poll: Will controversial ‘How I Met Your Mother’ finale attract attention of Emmy voters?

How I Met Your Mother signed off Monday after nine seasons with a finale that left fans divided as to its ending. The hour-long episode drew record ratings for this CBS staple. Will all this attention, both good and bad, be enough to get this laffer back onto the radar of Emmy voters?

Surprisingly, the hit show has only contended for Best Comedy Series once. That was in 2009 when it was bested by “30 Rock,” which picked up its third straight win. Since then, another CBS show, “The Big Bang Theory” has been the lone representative of the multi-camera format in this race.

While it is unusual for a show to find favor with the Emmys again after being dropped it does happen ocassionally. Remember, “Friends” bounced in and out of this top race twice before winning for its eighth season in 2002.

Could “How I Met Your Mother” make a comeback in this category? After all, with up to seven nominees this year, there is certainly room for it alongside the perennials such as four-time champ “Modern Family” and cable fare “Louie” and “Veep.”

Vote in our poll below as to whether “HIMYM” will make it back into this race and then make your predictions as to the line-up using our easy drag-and-drop menu.

  1. I would be shocked to see it get into series but I voted yes because not only did I love the finale, but I could definitely see it get into writing, and especially directing

  2. How I Met Your Mother somehow became a hit show like The Middle and 3 Broke Girls, despite it centering on Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney Stinson, a self centered jerk and self appointed ladies man and no one else in the cast.
