Will Julianna Margulies (‘The Good Wife’) reclaim title as SAG’s most awarded actor?

Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife“) gets the best odds to win Best TV Drama Actress at the SAG Awards according to our racetrack odds. It would be her third win for “The Good Wife” and her ninth win overall. That would put her back on top as SAG’s most honored performer.

Her eight wins are still the most of any actress at the event, but in 2012 Alec Baldwin tied her record. The “30 Rock” star was unstoppable for years in the Best TV Comedy Actor race, and that year he won his seventh straight prize for the NBC sitcom. Baldwin also won Best TV Comedy Ensemble with the “30 Rock” cast in 2008. But with “30 Rock” off the air, Margulies has a chance to reclaim the throne just for herself.

Margulies has won TV Drama Actress four times overall: twice for “ER” (1997 and 1998) and twice more for “The Good Wife” (2009 and 2010). She also won Best TV Drama Ensemble four times with the cast of “ER” (1995-1998). But despite her popularity with her acting peers, she wasn’t even nominated last year. So it won’t just be a comeback if she wins, it’ll be a comeback for her just to be nominated.

‘Modern Family,’ ‘Transparent’ lead with 3 WGA TV Awards nominations each

Is there reason to believe she’ll return to the SAG lineup? Perhaps: consider that she did the same at the Emmys. After three straight nominations for Best Drama Actress, including a win in 2011, she was snubbed by the TV academy in 2013. Then, after a creatively resurgent fifth season, she was nominated again in 2014, and won.

Margulies faces tough competition from 2011 winner Jessica Lange (“American Horror Story: Freak Show“), who ranks second in our predictions with 7/2 odds, and 2012 champ Claire Danes (“Homeland“), who’s in third with 15/2 odds. Most of our users are discounting the incumbent, Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey“), who’s down in seventh place with 20/1 odds.
