Does Sam Claflin flex his acting muscles – or, well, his actual muscles – enough to win Best Shirtless Performance at the MTV Movie Awards? The answer may depend on how much of the squealing-teenage-girl vote is available now that “Twilight” is over. (Taylor Lautner won last year.)
So far things are looking good for Claflin – and his odds aren’t bad either. The 27-year-old joined the cast of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” as Finnick Odair and gets field-leading 4/11 odds for offering Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) a sugar cube while bare-chested.
But to win he’ll have to grapple (shirtless?) with a godly Chris Hemsworth (“Thor: The Dark World“), who ranks second with 6/1 odds; Leonardo DiCaprio, who is in various states of undress throughout “The Wolf of Wall Street” and gets 33/1 odds; and former teen star Zac Efron, all grown up and wearing very little in “That Awkward Moment” for 33/1 odds.
There’s also Jennifer Aniston, the sole woman in the category, who puts on a provocative strip show in “Were the Millers” and ranks third with 14/1 odds. If the beefcake splits the vote, she could capitalize.
So who will win? Because we take awards very seriously, below are examples of the shirtless nominees being shirtless. Study them closely to determine who best meets the artistic challenge of not having a shirt on, then make your predictions.
Jennifer Aniston, “We’re The Millers”
Sam Claflin, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”
