“The Normal Heart,” which currently leads our racetrack odds for Best TV Movie at the Emmys, chronicles the early years of the AIDS crisis as experienced by gay activists fighting for medical and political intervention in New York City.
It’s based on a play by Larry Kramer that originally premiered in 1985 and was revived on Broadway in 2011, winning Best Play Revival. Kramer also adapted the screenplay for the telefilm, which premieres on HBO on Sunday, May 25.
