Remember to use guilds as guidepost to Oscar nominations

Oscar prognosticators know to look to the guilds for guidance when making their predictions. We have already heard from the big four — actors, writers, producers and directors — as to their picks for the best in their respective fields.

Beginning Wednesday (Jan. 8), the below-the-line crafts begin to unveil their nominees. All but the sound editors will have announced their nominations before the Academy Awards reveal their lineup on Jan. 16.

  1. I assumed that 12 Years’ lack of a WGA nomination was because the writer wasn’t in the guild. Does anyone know if any other major contenders are in eligible at these guilds?
