After shifting into March this year to get out of the way of the Winter Olympics, the Oscars are heading back to February next year, with the 87th annual edition of these kudos to take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. And the motion picture academy has unveiled the calendar of key events leading up to Oscar Sunday.
Nominations will open on Monday, Dec. 29 and close 10 days later on Thursday, Jan. 8. (This year’s period ran from Dec. 27 to Jan. 8)
Nominations will be revealed bright and early on Thursday, Jan. 15 (this year’s announcement was on Jan. 16).
Final voting kicks off on Friday, Feb. 6 and runs till Tuesday, Feb. 17. That is much sooner and shorter than this year when final voting ran from Feb. 14 to Feb. 25.
So, while there was a gap of 29 days between the announcement of the nominations and the beginning of final voting this year’, next year that is down to 22 days. This year, there was a wait of 45 days from nominations to the Oscars. Next year, there will be only 38 days in the countdown.
