29 Oscar Experts predict Matthew McConaughey (‘Dallas Buyers Club’) will win Best Actor

All but one of our 30 Oscar Experts are predicting that Matthew McConaughey will win Best Actor for his performance in “Dallas Buyers Club” at the Oscars on Sunday. That overwhelming support gives him leading odds of 1/10 to add an Academy Award to all the other prizes he has picked up for this change-of-pace part. 

Gold Derby founder Tom O’Neil is backing the bid by Leonardo DiCaprio for his work in “The Wolf of Wall Street.” He has odds of 33/1 to pull off an upset at the Oscars. 

BAFTA  champ Chiwetel Ejiofor is in third place for his performance in “12 Years a Slave,” which is locked in a tight battle for Best Picture. He has odds of 33/1.

At 50/1 is Hollywood veteran Bruce Dern who reaped his first lead bid (he contended in supporting in 1978 for “Coming Home”) for “Nebraska.” He has odds of 50/1.

Rounding out the category is Christian Bale who reunited with David O. Russell, the director of the film (“The Fighter”) that won him the supporting actor Oscar in 2010, for “American Hustle.” He has odds of 100/1.

  1. If Leo doesnt win this, UGGHHHHH!!!! I bet if he lost weight in this role they would give it to him because they pick typical stuff. Of course, MM gets all the recognition, he deserves it to an extent. He plays a southern homophobe with AIDS. Anything that deals with AIDS, the Holocaust, Slavery or WWII attracts the Academy. Or mental illness. This role didnt feel challenging except for his weight loss. Leo actually took a risk for himself as did Chiwetel. You shouldny give someone an Oscar based solely on the fact that they lost or gained weight. The Academy better be smart about this and pick the one who DESERVES to win, not the one who just lost weight.
