Oscars predictions slugfest: Tom O’Neil and Paul Sheehan dish possible UPSETS

Gold Derby’s executive editor Paul Sheehan and I agree with most of our Experts that “Boyhood” is ahead to win the Oscar for Best Picture, but we also believe there’s a serious upset potential by “Selma,” “Birdman” or “The Imitation Game.”

Surprisingly, we also agree upon the most suspenseful Oscar category: Best Actor. Tune in for our reasons why Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) will prevail. Either watch our video slugfest or listen to the audio podcast version below.

See all of Paul’s predictions here, mine here. See how our picks compare to the other Experts.

  1. I’m a little sad that Brendan Gleeson isn’t going to get any award love for Calvary. I think he hits a lot of the marks for a nomination. He’s a respected character actor giving a towering performance. I’m afraid he won’t get another shot like this one.

  2. How can anyone make such a huge accusation like Kidman winning the Oscar because Oscar voters felt bad about her break up with Tom Cruise w/o having actual facts or research? Did you guys talk to all the Oscar voters about this? Your assumptions are ridiculous. Give me a break. That train station scene where she screams “I’m dying in this town!” is just remarkable. Nicole has NEVER been that good. It’s the kind of role that packs so many punches. Sure it was a lot shorter than Meryl and Julianne’s roles but we all know Oscar does not give a hoot about an actor’s screen time.

  3. These guys are a joke. Last year they were insisting that Leo would win because he was “due.” These guys grasp at straws for reasons their predictions will be right. I beat them all the time.

  4. “These guys are a joke. Last year they were insisting that Leo would win because he was “due.” These guys grasp at straws for reasons their predictions will be right. I beat them all the time.” You took the words out of my mouth. I cringed everytime they said that leo would win. Come on, it was obvious that McConaughey was gonna win for best actor after he won the sag and yet they said that Leo was gonna win lmao!!
