Don’t be shocked by snub of ‘Selma’ at SAG Awards nominations

Don’t write off “Selma” at the Academy Awards just because David Oyelowo, Tom Wilkinson and cast got snubbed at the SAG Awards. That probably occurred because DVD screeners could not be sent out to the 2,100 members of the Screen Actors’ Guild nominating committee in time thanks to production delays on the film. Some voters did see industry screenings of “Selma,” but not all.

As a result of the SAG snubs, Jake Gyllenhaal (“Nightcrawler”) managed to snag Oyelowo’s expected spot in the lead actor lineup. Wilkinson was a leading contender for supporting actor.

Two years ago Christoph Waltz managed to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor after getting snubbed at SAG when no screener of “Django Unchained” had been sent to guild voters for the same late-production reason.
