The debut of the new trailer for the upcoming thriller “Lucy” continues a busy year for actress Scarlett Johansson, who has four films opening in quick succession: “Under the Skin” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” both open April 4, followed by Jon Favreau‘s comedy “Chef” on May 9, and then “Lucy” on August 8.
In “Lucy,” Johansson plays a drug mule smuggling a substance that enters her bloodstream and drastically improves her mental and physical prowess. The film is by Luc Besson, known for writing, directing, and producing action films like “The Fifth Element” and “The Transporter.”
“Lucy” probably isn’t an awards contender. In fact, none of Johansson’s films this year seem likely to finally break her through at the Oscars. Most are genre fare, though strong reviews for “Under the Skin,” in which she plays an alien seductress in Scotland, make that the likeliest of the bunch, if voters still remember it by the end of the year.
Despite appearing in the Oscar-winning films “Lost in Translation,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “Her,” and earning four Golden Globe nominations to date, Johansson has never been nominated for an Oscar. She also earned a Critics’ Choice bid for her voice-over performance in “Her,” and “Translation” won her the BAFTA for Best Actress.
