“The Amazing Race” returned for its 25th edition on CBS in its new Friday time slot. This 10-time Emmy champ kicked off the silver anniversary season with a gift to fans; they were invited to the start of the race in Times Square, which began in the early hours of May 31. This “Amazing Race” will take the teams on a 26,000 mile trek across eight countries in a quest for the one million dollar prize.
Spoilers for the season premiere of “The Amazing Race” are below!
The first leg saw the racers scramble to reach St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. The first place finishers did not receive the usual Express Pass, which allowed racers to skip a task and go straight to the mat. Instead, this season’s twist was the Save, which will grant them immunity from elimination if they are ever last in a leg, up to the ninth one.
Did you predict that married dentists Misti & Jim would be the pair of racers to plow through the sand and find the clue that sent them to the Pit Stop, Fort Christian. And did you foresee that the last place finishers would be sisters Lisa & Michelle, realtors from Miami?
They and two other teams — newly engaged “Survivor” alums Keith & Whitney and firefighters Michael & Scott — had worked for hours in the dark in their unsuccessful hunt for the buried treasure chest. They all agreed to take a four-hour penalty and that set them off in a mad dash to the mat. The sisters, who had burned the firefighters earlier when they snuck their names onto an earlier flight sign-up, were edged out of the way by them in the end.
