After a second consecutive week in the bottom three, Tess Boyer could not escape the axe this time around. Our exclusive Gold Derby odds said “The Voice” fans would send her home, and they did. Joining her at the exit on Tuesday was somewhat of a surprise: Bria Kelly is also no longer on the show.
See our chart at the right, which compiles our Users predictions each week. Asking the question “Who will be eliminated this week?,” it had Boyer in the first spot with 10/11 odds and Kelly in third place with 9/2 odds to go home early.
Proving us all completely wrong, Delvin Choice had 14/5 odds to be eliminated, but it turned out he had a safe journey. That person on the chopping block was Kat Perkins instead, who stunningly fought for her life in the bottom three.
Fans listened to that trio of ladies perform and then used an “instant save” on Twitter near the end of the hour to save Perkins. Kelly performed first with “Crazy on You” (Heart). Boyer was next up with “Who Knew?” (Pink). Then Perkins rocked out with “Paris Ooh La La” (Grace Potter and the Nocturnals).
Adam Levine still has Choice, Perkins, and Christina Grimmie. Blake Shelton keeps Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin, and Jake Worthington. They are the only two coaches who have ever prevailed in the first five seasons of the program. Levine won the first and fifth seasons. Shelton triumphed in the second, third, and fourth cycles. With six of the remaining eight contenders, there should be heavy odds for one of them to win yet again.
Host Carson Daly announced at the beginning of Tuesday’s show that two new judges will join the show next fall. Gwen Stefani (from No Doubt) and Pharrell Williams will replace Shakira and Usher for at least one season. Levine and Shelton will both return.
For the next show on Monday, May 5, Stefani and Williams will take the stage and perform, as will the top eight contestants.
