Predicting it to prevail on Tonys night are: Roger Friedman (Showbiz 411), Thom Geier (EW), Andy Lefkowitz (Theatermania), Michael Musto (Village Voice), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), David Sheward (Back Stage), Doug Strassler (NY Press), Matt Windman (amNY) and Wayman Wong (NY Daily News).
Martin Denton (NY Theatre) favors “Aladdin,” the stage adaptation of the 1992 Disney hit toon while Andy Humm (Gay USA) is backing the bid by “Beautiful,” a jukebox musical that uses the music of Carole King to tell her story.
Likewise, nine of our 12 Experts are predicting that off-Broadway cult hit “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will win Best Musical Revival. They are: Denton, Geier, Lefkowitz, Musto, O’Neil, Sheehan, Strassler, Windman and Wong.
Humm and Sheward think that 1967 Tony champ “Cabaret” will win this prize again as it did in 1998.
