‘Modern Family,’ ‘Transparent’ lead with 3 WGA TV Awards nominations each

Pernennial favorite “Modern Family” and newcomer “Transparent” lead in nominations for the Writers Guild of America TV Awards with three bids apiece. Each contends for Best Comedy Series.  “Transparent” is also up for New Series and individual episode while “Modern Family” has rival bids in that latter category.

Of the other Comedy Series contenders, only “Louie” and “Orange is the New Black” were also cited for individual episodes. The other series nominees are “Veep” and “Silicon Valley,” which also contends for New Series.

Among dramas, “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife” and “Mad Men” all earned both series and individual bids. “House of Cards” is also up for the series prize as is “True Detective,” which also vies for the New Series award as do the dramas “The Affair” and “The Knick.”

As usual, “The Simpsons” dominates the Animation field, earning four of the six nominations with “Bobs Burgers” getting the other two.

Only two of the remaining four daytime dramas reaped bids in that race: “Days of Our Lives” and “General Hospital.”

Winners will be revealed on Feb. 14, 2015 at simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City.

  1. I’m impressed to see Mad Men hanging in with the WGA. It seems like everyone else is giving up on that show in terms of awards. I personally think Mad Men is still just as good as it’s ever been.
