During our recent webcam video (watch below), Alan Cumming dishes his Best Drama Supporting Actor Emmy nomination for “The Good Wife” — his first bid in four years for the CBS legal drama. “I thought that maybe they’d forgotten about me,” he jokes. “But it’s lovely actually, and all the nicer that I got one this time.”

Cumming chose to submit “Undisclosed Recipients” to Emmy voters. In this episode, his character Eli Gold has to school Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) about being too cocky in her new position as State’s Attorney. “There were some really good bravura moments that Eli had” in that episode, he says with a snap, comparing Eli to Beyonce. “It showed me off better than even some of the other ones that had much more screen time.”

The actor reveals that the first few episodes of the upcoming seventh season are going to be extra special for fans of Eli. “Margo Martindale is my nemesis. Something happens to Eli in the first episode that just changes everything. I mean, it’s really great. I’m actually more excited about my storyline in these first three episodes of this season than I have been for a couple of seasons.”

Also in our chat, the Tony-winner (Best Musical Actor: “Cabaret,” 1998) tackles fan questions and reveals what it was like hosting the Tony Awards with Kristin Chenoweth earlier this year. He jests, “It was like walking into a freeway of oncoming trucks!”
