Sorry, Qaasim Middleton: Nobody’s ever won ‘American Idol’ after Judges’ Save

After being saved by the judges back in Top 11 Week, Qaasim Middleton‘s chances of becoming the next “American Idol” all but disappeared. Don’t forget, ever since the Judges’ Save was first introduced in Season 8, no one that’s been saved has gone on to win the show. Will Qaasim make history, or fall victim to it? Hurry — make your predictions now and you could win our weekly prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate. It’s fun and easy!

Who will win ‘American Idol’? See exclusive predictions!

During Wednesday’s live show, host Ryan Seacrest announced that Qaasim would make it through to Top 8 Week along with Nick Fradiani, Jax, Tyanna Jones, Joey Cook, Quentin Alexander, Clark Beckham and Rayvon Owen.

That left poor Daniel Seavey out in the cold in ninth place. Daniel was Gold Derby’s official prediction to go home with 27/20 odds, followed by Rayvon and Qaasim tied for second place with 11/2 odds and Quentin in fourth place with 8/1 odds. Throughout “American Idol” history, there have been five singers prior to Qaasim that received the controversial Judges’ Save. None of them went on to win their seasons.

In Season 8, Matt Giraud was saved in Top 7 Week but still went home two weeks later. In Season 9, Michael Lynche was saved in Top 9 Week and wound up lasting five more weeks. In Season 10, Casey Abrams was saved in Top 11 Week and was then eliminated five weeks later. In Season 11, Jessica Sanchez was saved in Top 7 Week and made it all the way to the season finale, but lost out to Phillip Phillips. The Judges’ Save was not used in Season 12, however, last year Sam Woolf was saved in Top 8 Week and lasted four more weeks.

Could Qaasim be the exception to the rule and win the whole thing? Unfortunately, his Gold Derby odds don’t look very promising. Our early odds for next week show Qaasim is in second place to be eliminated with 2/1 odds, behind Quentin in first place with leading 1/10 odds of going home.

If I predict that Qaasim will be eliminated and end up being correct, I’ll only earn 200 points for my prediction since he’s heavily favored to go home. So it might be advantageous for me to bet on a relative longshot like Rayvon instead. Rayvon’s odds of going home are currently 8/1, meaning if I place my bet on him and I’m right, I’ll earn 800 points. Although, if I use my special 500 point bet on Rayvon and I’m right, I’ll receive a whopping 4,000 points.

Congrats to our user KING for winning this week’s episode contest. This reader wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate for reaping perfect 100% accuracy and 5,000 points (see complete predix). His winning predictions were that Daniel would go home, that Jennifer Lopez would have “goosies,” that Keith Urban would give a standing ovation and that Harry Connick Jr. would not mention a singer’s “intonation.” Check out KING’s name at the top of this week’s episode leaderboard.

Where do you fall on our overall Season 14 leaderboard?

For the entire season so far, JB is in first place with 63% prediction accuracy, followed by Phoenix and Amikala tied for second place with 56% accuracy, although their point scores are different as Phoenix has 11,410 points and Amikala has 1,555 points.

Frequent contest winner Denton is in fourth place with 50% accuracy, and then there’s a three-way tie for fifth place, as Magic 8 Ball, Povalles and KyleBailey all have 44% accuracy. Click here to see where you score on our overall season leaderboard.

Can YOU beat these frontrunners to win our prizes? Then be sure to take part in our “American Idol” prediction contest. We’re giving away $100 Amazon gift certificates to our weekly winners plus at season’s end. The deadline for each episode is Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT.

Our current overall leader JB correctly predicted all four of this week’s questions (see complete predix). However, his point total (400) is lower than KING’s point total (5,000) for the specific episode as KING was able to lock in better odds throughout the week.

Remember that coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering that week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a longshot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points, so don’t take them for granted.
