‘American Idol’ controversy: Do Twitter followers reveal boot order, eventual winner?

“Wow!” That’s what I just told myself when I scoured the Twitter accounts of the remaining Top 11 “American Idol” singers. Last week, we all thought that Qaasim Middleton‘s almost-elimination was a huge shocker. But if you look at the number of fans following Qaasim on Twitter, it’s evident that he just doesn’t have the same support as his competitors.

By examining the number of Twitter followers for the remaining singers, I started wondering if I’d come across a secret playlist for who’ll be eliminated next and who will eventually win.

If I’m right, this information could potentially spoil the entire “American Idol” experience. If I’m wrong — and I hope I am — then it suggests Twitter followers may not be inclined to actually vote for their favorites every week. Time will tell.

1.) Jax – @Jax

Could this mean bad news for Quentin, Tyanna, Qaasim or Joey in Wednesday’s double elimination episode? To make or update your predictions, just log in to your account (or create a free one), click on the “American Idol” button and start answering our weekly questions. Starting now, we’re giving away $100 Amazon gift certificates to our weekly winners plus at season’s end. The deadline for each episode is Wednesday at 4 p.m. PT.

Based on the amount of fan support, I have officially changed my winner prediction from Tyanna to Jax. I’ve always loved Jax, but worried she was a bit of a niche singer. Not true, according to her Twitter followers. By switching from Tyanna (who has leading 2/7 odds to win at Gold Derby) to Jax (11/2 odds), I lost all of the points I would have received up until now if Tyanna ends up being the winner. At Gold Derby, we get 200 points per week for every episode that we stick with the correct winner. But if Jax does end up winning, it’s better to switch now rather than later because the points continue to accrue every week for correct winner predictions.
