Congratulations to our user FreemanGriffin for winning this week’s episode contest. He’s one of only four people to reap perfect 100% prediction accuracy while predicting Top 5 Week, however he took the lead with 3,002 points thanks to using his 500 and 200 point bets wisely. If eligible, as per our contest rules, he will win a $100 Amazon gift certificate.
This user’s winning predictions were that Tyanna would be sent packing, that Jennifer Lopez would not have “goosies,” that Harry Connick Jr. would not mention a singer’s “intonation” and that Keith Urban would give a standing ovation.
FreemanGriffin earned 2,750 points for correctly predicting this week’s elimination question thanks to wisely placing his 500 point bet on Tyanna when she had odds of 11/2. That’s where the strategy — and fun — comes into play here at Gold Derby when making your weekly predictions.
Tyanna was not an easy call to get the boot this week, as only 17% of our users predicted she’d be going home. The vast majority — 65% — were predicting Rayvon Owen to be eliminated, but he survived yet another showing in the bottom two. Click on the left-hand chart for the episode’s full odds.

For the entire season so far, Phoenix and JB are tied for first place with 61% accuracy, though Phoenix’s point score (16,735) is higher than JB’s (2,915) thanks to locking in better odds and using his 500 and 200 point bets wisely.

Our current overall leader Phoenix correctly predicted Tyanna’s ouster this week and Quentin’s exit last week. However, he missed calling Joey’s elimination in Top 7 Week (see complete predix), proving that it’s possible to do well in our contests without getting everything right.
Remember that coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering that week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a longshot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points, so don’t take them for granted.
