Make sure Grandma's out of the room before you watch Andy Samberg's racy new Fox Emmy promo. The "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star and Emmy host has fun listing seven dirty-sounding words that are actually allowed on television — things like "kumquat" and "shuttlecock" — all while grinning ghoulishly in his smart tux. (Watch video below.)
The first-time Emmy emcee follows in the footsteps of other recent "Saturday Night Live" alums Seth Meyers (2014) and Jimmy Fallon (2010) in taking his first stab as host. No doubt Fox is hoping that Samberg's live TV background and musical skills will make him a host to remember.
He's already a pro at this Emmy stuff. Don't forget, he won a trophy in 2007 for his viral "D!ck In A Box" music video along with his Lonely Island bandmates and Justin Timberlake. And this year, though he was snubbed for acting on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," Samberg is an Emmy nominee for Best Variety Special Writing for "The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special."
Back in May, I got the chance to talk to Samberg about his Emmy plans. "It's a little too early to start writing in earnest, but I've been jotting down rough thoughts in my phone," he admitted at the time, adding he was "open" to the Lonely Island appearing on the telecast and would be happy to invite fellow Fox star and ex-"SNL" alum Will Forte ("The Last Man on Earth"), too.
What do you think of Samberg's first official Emmy promo? How will he do hosting the Emmys on Sept. 20? Sound off at the bottom of this post and be sure to join the discussion in our TV forum.
