"Ashley Nell Tipton had a strong showing all season and even when her designs were bottom looks the judges still supported her and gave her positive feedback, which means they liked her and her work," explains Benutty, who did the best at scoring the Season 14 finale of "Project Runway." Only five of our contest players correctly predicted how the finalists would place, but Benutty broke the tie with his high point score (4,750) thanks to using his special 500 and 200 point bets wisely. Since he is eligible, as per our contest rules, he wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate.
See Benutty's finale predictions here, which correctly forecasted Ashley as the winner, Kelly Dempsey as the runner-up, Edmond Newton in third place and Candice Cuoco in fourth place. Click on the right-hand chart to see where YOU placed in our Season 14 finale contest.
"Kelly was a huge dark horse for much of the season," Benutty adds. "And though I personally liked her more than Ashley, I had a hard time believing that the judges would see her playful and youthful designs as win-worthy."
"There was never a doubt in my mind that Ashley and Kelly would be the Final 2, and of Edmond and Candice it would have been shocking if Candice made a collection the judges liked more than Edmond," Benutty explains.
According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that are derived from the predictions made by readers like you, Ashley and Kelly were actually tied in the #1 position on our winner's chart for who would become this season's champ. Both designers had 13/5 odds (28% chance) to win, closely mirroring the judges' tough decision. See more odds and rankings for the finale right here.
