Yesterday I named the three houseguests who CAN’T win “Big Brother,” but now it’s time to turn the tables and name the trio of players who have the best shot of claiming the $500,000 prize. After reading my analysis, make your predictions for Week 1 and you could win our prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate. It’s fun and easy, so start now by scrolling down and predicting who will win Season 17.
As a guy in the “Big Brother” house, the most important qualities tend to be what you lack. John is not the most physically threatening of the men, nor does he demand the most attention or appeal most to the girls as showmance material. John, for lack of better phrasing, is rather middling in every aspect of the game. This is a huge asset as he is unlikely to be pegged as a threat until the end, by which time it may just be too late to knock him out.
First impressions are sometimes last impressions, but sometimes they aren’t — as is, I think, the case for Liz with most viewers. Prior to the premiere, sentiment around Liz on the forums and social media was mostly negative given the emphasis on the “party girl attitude” indicative of her pre-show interviews. But Liz entered the house with a calm, collected and very cool attitude leading me to believe she’s easily the best bet dark horse to win.
Not only is Steve adorable, but he’s entirely not threatening. More than likely Steve’s quiet demeanor is going to pigeon-hole him as the token “pawn” each week in nominations. We all know that pawns often go home, but Steve comes off as the guy that won’t feel betrayed when he’s nominated and that is a golden ticket for each HOH. His biggest difficulty will be avoiding becoming a “floater,” but as a super fan I suspect he’ll have some major moves to make deep in the game distancing himself from the pawn/floater spot and positioning him in a winning alliance.
Only 2% of our users predicted that James would win the HOH comp, while a shocking 0% predicted Jason would triumph. Let that be a lesson to all of our predictors: never underestimate the underdog. Click on the chart to the left to see the full odds for Week 1.

Remember that coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering that week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a longshot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points, so don’t take them for granted.
Average Gold Derby users just like YOU often turn out to be our smartest prognosticators, so it’s important that you give us your predictions. You can continue to update and change your predictions throughout the week, just click “Save Predictions” when you’ve settled on your choice.
