Critics’ Choice TV Awards predictions: Comedy Actress battle of Gina Rodriguez, Aya Cash & Constance Wu

Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer“) won Best Comedy Actress at the Critics’ Choice TV Awards in May. However her show hasn’t aired any new episodes since, making her ineligible for these kudos which have just been combined with the movie awards. So who will prevail instead?

Our Top 24 Users, who got the highest scores predicting the last Critics’ Choice winners, can’t agree. They’re split four ways between Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin“), Aya Cash (“You’re the Worst“), Constance Wu (“Fresh Off the Boat“) and Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend“).

As of this writing, eight of our Top 24 say Rodriguez will prevail, giving her 2/1 odds: JB, Tyler The Awesome Guy, Laurw, victorrstang00 (aka Gold Derby contributor Ralph Galvan), Tim Simms, BRIAN12 and Joseph.

This is the second bid for Rodriguez, who was nominated in May for the first season of “Jane the Virgin” and is now being considered for the first half of season two, which aired this fall.

But another eight of our Top 24 Users favor Cash, also giving her 2/1 odds: KyleBailey, kanekibondzzz, GrantRicosMama, sturnc, Tyler G and Joel_Zummak. Of those, it’s worth noting that Tyler G had the highest score predicting the last Critics’ Choice Awards (66% accuracy), so pay close attention to his picks.

This is Cash’s first nomination, though “You’re the Worst” contended for Best Comedy Series last May as well as now.

Five more of our top users are predicting Wu, giving her 7/2 odds: SimonJupiter, thedemonhog (aka Gold Derby contributor Riley Chow), JackO, DAN_QUIXOTE and NateDogg. But even though Wu’s supporters are in the minority, two of them (SimonJupiter and DAN_QUIXOTE) tied Tyler G for the most accurate predictions in May. Are they onto something?

Like Rodriguez, Wu was also nominated for the first season of her show back in May and now hopes to take advantage of Schumer’s absence in her second season.

The last two top users thinks the award will go to newcomer Bloom, giving her 10/1 odds: Mayday Saracen and Gus Cruz. Bloom is the only nominee in this race competing for her first season: “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” premiered in the fall.

None of our Top 24 are predicting the last two nominees in the category: Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish“) with 66/1 odds and Wendi McLendon-Covey (“The Goldbergs“) with 80/1 odds.

Our Editors, those of us who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, are also split. Four out of six of us – Chris Beachum, Marcus Dixon, Matt Noble and I – are betting on Rodriguez, giving her 8/13 odds. Meanwhile, Rob Licuria is backing Wu and Paul Sheehan is predicting Ross, resulting in 5/1 odds for both of them.
