Alexa PenaVega's scores have been inconsistent this season on "Dancing With the Stars." Last week's "Most Memorable Year" routine was her worst yet. She bobbled a step with pro partner Mark Ballas, and the judges gave her scores so low she was near the bottom of the leaderboard. But the dreaded "Switch-Up" week turned out to be her salvation: she received the first perfect score of the season (40 out of 40).
Bindi Irwin had thrown down the gauntlet on "Most Memorable Year" night, when she and pro partner Derek Hough performed a contemporary routine dedicated to her late father, Steve Irwin. Judge Bruno Tonioli gave her the first 10 of the season, and she got another 10 on "Switch-Up" night for a cha cha with season 20 mirror ball trophy winner Val Chmerkovskiy.
But a couple of dances later, Alexa stole Irwin's regular partner Hough and also stole her thunder with a passionate tango that wowed the three regular judges – Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough – as well as special guest judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy, resulting in 10s across the board.
But as of this writing, Irwin is still the frontrunner to win this season according to our readers who have entered our predictions contest. 55% are betting on Irwin, giving her odds of 5/6. But Alexa, who led our predictions in the early weeks, is on her way back up. As of Monday night's show, 12% of users were predicting her to take the mirror ball trophy, but now she's up to 19%, improving her odds to 4/1.
