After five weeks of "Dancing With the Stars" predictions, three of our contest entrants are tied at the top of our leaderboard with 9 out of 15 correct (60%): Avaday, WiltedYouth and Denton Davidson. Will this trio still be in the lead after Monday night's results? (Click here to see our complete predictions leaderboard.)
As of this writing, both Denton and WiltedYouth are in lockstep with our predictions consensus when it comes to who will get the high score, who will get the low score and who will be eliminated. They both expect wildlife conservationist Bindi Irwin to finish on top of the judges' leaderboard, an opinion shared by 56% of our contest players, giving Irwin leading odds of 4/5.
They are also among the overwhelming majorities who expect celebrity chef Paula Deen to get the low score (89%) and be eliminated (85%). Unless one or both change their predictions at the last minute, it looks like those two users' predictions scores will still be in lockstep after Monday night's show. (Avaday had not entered predictions as of early Monday morning.)
Also making predictions for Monday night is LSKILDUM, who had the top score predicting the results of last week's "Switch-Up Night" and ranks sixth on our leaderboard for the season to date. He's going out on a limb by betting that boy band member Nick Carter will get the night's high score instead of Irwin.
In general, LSKILDUM doesn't buy the hype surrounding Irwin, who is the frontrunner to win the mirror ball trophy according to 58% of those making predictions here at Gold Derby. He explains, "[Alexa PenaVega] has been underrated because most believe Bindi is a better dancer (look at the predictions for who will win or who will score highest with the judges on any given night. Bindi has steadily held the top for both). So yes, I do believe that Alexa is going to win it … Bindi has also not been consistently at the top of the leaderboard, so that leaves it open to Nick or Alexa to get ahead."
He's going against the majority predicting a high score for Carter because he anticipates a comeback similar to Alexa, who came back from a low score on "Most Memorable Year" night to achieve a perfect score in the "Switch-Up." "Look at Alexa, she messed up in her foxtrot and came back to perfection the next week. So I expect redemption for both [Nick] and Tamar, but Nick has a better connection with [pro partner] Sharna than [Tamar Braxton] does with Val. So I expect it to be Nick at the top."
One or two surprises might be all it takes to dramatically shake up our predictions contest leaderboard. The battle to win our contest may turn out to be just as dramatic as the fight for the mirror ball trophy. The winner of this season's contest will receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate. We're also giving $100 for getting the top score in each week's predictions, provided you qualify according to our contest rules.
In our "Dancing with the Stars" predictions contest center, you get to answer the following questions each week:
