Daytime Emmys predictions: Ashleigh Brewer (‘B&B’) and Hunter King (‘Y&R’) duel for Younger Actress

According to our Top 24 Users, who were the highest scorers predicting last year’s Daytime Emmy nominations, returning champion Hunter King (“The Young and the Restless“) has a slight edge against newcomer Ashleigh Brewer (“The Bold and the Beautiful“) in the race for Best Younger Actress. But like the topsy-turvy race for Supporting Actor, there’s more to the story (click here for more stats).

King and Brewer are virtually tied with 10/3 odds, but Brewer is actually predicted by twice as many top users. 11 of the Top 24 are backing Brewer, compared to just five who are betting on a repeat for King. How are their odds so close given how much support there is for Brewer?

The answer lies in our Top 24 Users’ complete rankings (click here for those). You’ll notice that while only five are predicting King to win, another 11 rank her second, and 22 predict she’ll at least be nominated.

In contrast, the Top 24 are far more divided over Brewer’s candidacy. While 11 predict she’ll win, only one other ranks her in the top two, and seven others think she’ll be snubbed entirely. That has brought down her overall odds against King.

The rest of our top users are divided. Three predict Camryn Grimes (“Y&R”), who ranks third with 4/1 odds. Grimes won this award back in 2000 when she was just 10-years-old, which made her the category’s youngest winner ever. That victory was for her role as Cassie Newman, who was killed off in 2005; Grimes returned to the show in 2014 as Mariah Copeland, Cassie’s twin.

Also with support from three top users is 2013 winner Kristen Alderson (“General Hospital“), who is in fourth place with 11/2 odds. Alderson won her Emmy for playing Starr Manning, but like Grimes, she recently switched characters. Alderson originated the role of Starr on “One Life to Live,” but after a legal struggle between the ABC network and “OLTL’s” online production company Prospect Park, Starr was written out and Alderson was reintroduced to the “GH” cast as a new character, Kiki Jerome, whom the actress played until she left the series altogether in early 2015.

One of our Top 24, Pujolsfan, thinks Camila Banus (“Days of Our Lives“) will prevail, placing her fifth in their collective rankings with 10/1 odds. She left the NBC series at the end of 2014.

One more top user, PierceUNC, is predicting Lauren Boles (“Days”) to win, but Pierce is the only one of our Top 24 who is even predicting a nomination for the child actress, so she’s down in eighth place with 50/1 odds.

The rest of our predictors sharply disagree with the consensus of the Top 24. All Users place Brewer way out front with 23/10 odds, followed by Grimes (7/2). They put King down in third place (4/1), while Alderson is fourth (13/2) and Banus is fifth (12/1).

So who’s right?

Last year, our Top 24 Users scored highest when predicting Daytime Emmy nominations (62.78%), followed by our Editors (60.56%), and Experts and All Users (58.33%). Does that mean we should listen to them again? Even if we do, it wouldn’t give us a clear picture of this race given their unusual schism between Brewer and King.
