“General Hospital” wasn’t nominated for Best Directing Team last year, but our Top 24 Users, who were the highest scorers predicting 2014’s Daytime Emmy nominations, think it will actually win this year. 14 of them declare it the frontrunner, giving it 3/2 odds.
“GH” has won eight directing prizes overall, making it the second most awarded program in the category, behind “The Young and the Restless” with 13. But despite its 2014 snub, “GH” has been a juggernaut in this category in recent years, winning six times since 2000 alone.
Meanwhile, five top users pick “Days of Our Lives,” placing it second with 10/3 odds. Given its history, however, “Days” might actually be an underdog. It only ever won a directing Emmy once, and that was back in 1974.
“The Bold and the Beautiful” is third with 4/1 odds based on support from one top user. “B&B,” which debuted on CBS in 1987, didn’t get its first directing bid until 2000, but it has won twice in recent years (2011 and 2013).
Two of our Top 24 pick “Y&R,” but they collectively rank it last with 11/2 odds. That’s ironic considering the CBS soap’s track record. It’s the most awarded show in the history of the category, but it’s not as dominant as it once was. From 1996 to 2002, it won six times and only lost once (to “GH” in 2000), but after that it didn’t win again until 2011, when it tied with “B&B.”
The rest of our users agree with the consensus of our Top 24, also ranking “GH” first (5/4 odds), followed by “Days” (10/3), “B&B” (9/2), and “Y&R” (6/1).
