Our Top 24 Users are split down the middle when predicting Best Drama Series at the Daytime Emmys. Ten of those who did the best at predicting last year’s nominations expect last year’s surprise winner “The Young and the Restless” to repeat. Another ten favor 2013’s winner, “Days of Our Lives.” The remaining four are forecasting a win for 11-time champ “General Hospital.”
Based on the overall rankings by the Top 24, “Y&R” has a slight edge with odds of 13/8. This would be the ninth victory for the top-rated CBS soap, bringing it one step closer to matching the record set by “GH.”
“Days” is just a hair behind with 19/10 odds. The lone remaining NBC soap has only won twice before: way back in 1978 and in an upset two years ago.
Despite the limited number of soaps left on the air, last year “GH” was shut out of Drama Series, Writing Team, and Directing Team. It ended the night as the least awarded drama series. Can it improve its fortunes?
None of our Top 24 are predicting victory for CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful,” which had to wait more than two decades for its first win, but then took home three in a row (2009-2011). They rank it last with 16/1 odds.
However, our Top 24 Users disagree with the consensus of the rest of our users, who significantly favor “Days.” In fact, “Days” leads our combined predictions with 13/8 odds, followed by “Y&R” (2/1), “GH” (10/3), and “B&B” (20/1).
So who’s right?
Last year, our Top 24 Users scored highest when predicting Daytime Emmy nominations (62.78%), followed by our Editors (60.56%), and Experts and All Users (58.33%). Does that mean we should listen to them again? Even if we do, it wouldn’t give us a clear picture of the race for Best Drama thanks to their schism between “Days” and “Y&R.”
