“Glenn Rhee is one of the Atlanta 5, and it does seem strange in hindsight to kill him off without any witnesses or a send-off on ‘The Talking Dead,'” notes Sam Eckmann, who wins $100 predicting our “The Walking Dead” contest for Episode 3, titled “Thank You.” Can YOU take down this top-scoring user next week? Eckmann is 26 years old and hails from New York, NY where he’s an actor/singer. He’s one of three contest entrants to reap perfect 100% accuracy predicting all of the questions in this week’s contest, though he broke the tie with his high 20,300 point score thanks to using his special 500 and 200 point bets wisely. Since he is eligible, as per our contest rules, he wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate.
According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that are derived from the predictions made by contest entrants like you, Glenn’s death was a huge shocker as he only had 16/1 odds (6% chance) of being the next Main character to be killed off. Meanwhile, Nicholas had 9/2 odds (18% chance) of being the next Recurring character to die, suggesting our readers weren’t quite as shocked about his demise.
“‘The Talking Dead’ laid it on way too thick with their misery over Glenn’s demise,” Eckmann continues. “There is always sadness over the death of a character on this show, but last night it was really egregious. Couple that with the fact they didn’t include Glenn in their ‘in memoriam’ segment, nor did they have Steven Yeun on as a guest, and I have my suspicions about his fate.”
Eckmann’s theory for how Glenn could still be alive? “It is possible the walkers were feeding on Nicholas’ body which fell on top of him. Could we see Glenn crawling underneath the dumpster to escape?”
One thing not up for debate, though, is Nicholas’ death. “I had a hunch it was Nicholas’ time to go because I couldn’t see how much more they could do with his character. Nicholas has always been a coward and someone like just can’t survive long in the zombie apocalypse. With the episode title being ‘Thank You,’ I predicted it would somehow tie in to the Glenn/Nicholas relationship since Glenn spared his life last season.”
