Emmys cliffhanger: Will ‘The Amazing Race’ and Jane Lynch repeat in reality races?

At last year’s Emmys, “The Amazing Race” won Best Reality-Competition Program for the 10th time in the 12-year history of the award. Will it add another Emmy this September or could one of the shows that beat it before — “Top Chef” (2010) and “The Voice” (2013) — prevail again?

They both went down to defeat last year as did “Dancing With the Stars,” “Project Runway,” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Among those other series in contention are: “America’s Got Talent,” “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Chopped,” “Cutthroat Kitchen,” “Hollywood Game Night,” “MasterChef Junior,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Survivor,” “The Bachelor,” “The Biggest Loser,” and “The Taste.”

Jane Lynch (“Hollywood Game Night”) won Best Reality Host last year. She and four of her rival nominees — 2012 winner Tom Bergeron (“Dancing With the Stars”), Anthony Bourdain (“The Taste”), Cat Deeley (“So You Think You Can Dance”) and 2013 champs Heidi Klum/Tim Gunn (“Project Runway”) — are in contention this year. The sixth, Betty White (“Off Their Rockers”), is no longer eligible.

Who could take White’s spot?

Jeff Probst (“Survivor”), who owned this award for the first four years it was given (2008 – 2011), is a possibility as are past nominees Phil Keoghan (“The Amazing Race”) and Ryan Seacrest (“American Idol”).

Other possibilities include Ted Allen (“Chopped”), Alton Brown (“Cutthroat Kitchen”), RuPaul Charles (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Bobby Flay (“Beat Bobby Flay”), Padma Lakshmi/Tom Colicchio (“Top Chef”), Gordon Ramsay (“MasterChef Junior”), and Mark L. Walberg (“Antiques Roadshow”).
