When it comes to making your Golden Globes predictions at Gold Derby, always remember: Newest = Best. Voting members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association love honoring the hippest, freshest fare on the television side, including in the race for Best TV Drama Series. For a refresher on some of the highest-profile new dramas up for consideration, scroll down to click through our brand new photo gallery highlighting the top 15 new TV dramas of 2015.
Since the Globes' eligibility period is the 2015 calendar year, that means many of the freshman shows that already contended at the Emmys will be up for their first Globes, including "Empire," "Better Call Saul" and "Bloodline."
But if a show aired in the first half of 2015, might it already be too old for Globes voters? Chances are good they'll want to honor something that just premiered in the past few months, including new summer and fall shows "Supergirl," "Blindspot" and "Mr. Robot," or upcoming contenders "Man in the High Castle" and "Into the Badlands."
Recent TV dramas to claim victory on their freshman outings include: "The Affair" (2014), "Homeland" (2011), "Boardwalk Empire" (2010) and "Mad Men" (2007). Find out if a new drama wins this year when Ricky Gervais hosts the 73rd Golden Globes on Jan. 10, 2016. Nominations in 25 categories — 14 in film and 11 in television — will be announced on Dec. 10.
