What did you think of "Fear the Walking Dead," which premiered Sunday night on AMC? Will it be an Emmy winner? Vote now in our poll below.
"Fear the Walking Dead" is spun off from the blockbuster ratings hit "The Walking Dead," which returns for its sixth season this October. The original series follows a group of survivors who try to find safety in and around Atlanta after the zombie apocalypse, but "Fear the Walking Dead" is set across the continent in Los Angeles and follows a fractured family during the initial days of the apocalypse. Will the change of scenery improve the show's awards chances?
"The Walking Dead" is a two-time Emmy winner (Best Prosthetic Makeup: 2011, 2012), and it's nominated four more times this year in Creative Arts categories: Best Prosthetic Makeup, Best Sound Editing, Best Stunt Coordination and Best Supporting Visual Effects. But it has never contended for top awards like writing, directing, acting or Best Drama Series, even though several other awards groups have recognized the show.
The Golden Globes nominated the show for Best Drama in 2010, and the Critics' Choice TV Awards followed suit in 2011. Critics' Choice later gave acting bids to Andrew Lincoln (Best Drama Actor, 2013) and Melissa McBride (Best Drama Supporting Actress, 2014). The TCA Awards nominated it for Program of the Year in 2013. And it has been in contention at both the Writers Guild and Directors Guild Awards. So why not the Emmys?
