‘Jane the Virgin’ star Gina Rodriguez and creator Jennie Urman dish secrets (Exclusive Videos)

Jane the Virgin” has been a huge breakout hit for the CW this season. In January, newcomer Gina Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress while the show competed for the series prize, losing to “Transparent.” On Sunday, we caught up with both star and creator Jennie Urman walking the Paley Festival red carpet at the Dolby Theatre. Watch our exclusive videos below.

Rodriguez admits it may seem life can change drastically after winning a major award that’s not necessarily how things play out. “After the Golden Globes lot of people were like: ‘How has your life changed? You must be like riding jet skis and hovercrafts!’ and no, I’m not doing anything like that.” What she is doing is working hard on the final episodes of this first season and thinking about what will happen to her character next year.

As for Urman, she has been busy grappling with a new Emmy rule that declared all one-hour shows, like hers, would compete in the drama categories. Only 30-minute series would be presumed to be comedies. However, producers can make a case that their program belongs in the other genre and she tell us she got to work right away. She has petitioned the academy in the hopes that “Jane” can compete as a comedy: “I wrote them a letter, a very, very, very long letter. It could have been much longer but I had to cap it. We’ll see what they decide but we wrote them a letter and submitted all the aired episodes. Who knows? It’s brand new for all of us.”
