Since 2000, only one man has taken home the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy Actor more than once: Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”), who prevailed in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Does that mean last year’s champ Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent“) will have a tough time winning again? If so, might Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth“) or Rob Lowe (“The Grinder“) be the ones to unseat him? Hurry — there’s a $100 Amazon gift certificate on the line for whoever does the best at predicting this year’s Golden Globe Awards, so start predicting right now.
According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that are derived from the predictions made by Expert journalists we’ve polled, Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s nominations and the more than 1,500 total Users who make up the largest (and often savviest) block of predictors, Tambor currently leads the race for Best TV Comedy Actor with 2/1 odds.
While Golden Globes history may favor newcomers to the race, Tambor does have major factors in his corner. The second season of the Amazon hit “Transparent” streamed December 4, right in the midst of Globes voting. And Tambor was unbeatable for much of this awards season, earning kudos at the Emmys and Critics’ Choice Awards in addition to last year’s Globe victory.
If voters are keen on rewarding someone new, they may opt for Forte (11/2 odds). Despite his show currently airing its second season on Fox, “The Last Man on Earth” is still new to the Globes because of their eligibility period that consists of the 2015 calendar year. As we all knew, Newest = Best when it comes to voting members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, so Forte could pull off a jawdropper.
And Lowe (13/2 odds) has been an industry favorite for years, starring in everything from “The West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation” to the new Fox hit “The Grinder.” He’s just the kind of big-name Hollywood star the HFPA members might look to honor when it comes time to marking their ballots.
Other top contenders for Best TV Comedy Actor: Aziz Ansari (“Master of None”) is in fourth place with 15/2 odds, Patrick Stewart (“Blunt Talk”) is in fifth place with 10/1 odds and Louis C.K. (“Louie”) is in sixth place with 22/1 odds. SEE MORE
