Spirit Awards: What time does the show start?

The Indie Spirit Awards — as decided upon by the the members of Film Independent — take place on Saturday afternoon, just one day before the Oscars. The awards are handed out in a ceremony on the beach in Santa Monica beginning at 2:00 pm PT/5:00 pm ET. For the first time in its 30-year history, the kudocast will air live on IFC. We will be updating the list of honorees throughout the two-hour ceremony and offering detailed analsysis of what these awards means to tomorrow’s Oscars.

Last year, “12 Years a Slave” won Best Picture here first as did all four Oscar acting champs — leads Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club“) and Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine“) and supporting players Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”) and Lupita Nyongo (“12 Years a Slave”).

Independent Spirit Award predictions: ‘Boyhood,’ Michael Keaton, …

This year, we are predicting that “Boyhood” will win Best Picture here over, among others, its main Oscar competition “Birdman.”

And this 12 years in the making movie is also expected to pick up Best Director (Richard Linklater), Best Supporting Actress (Patricia Arquette) and Best Film Editing.

However, “Birdman” star Michael Keaton will claim the Best Actor prize (his Oscar rival Eddie Redmayne is absent as “The Theory of Everything” was a British production).

Also expected to continue their winning ways are Oscar frontrunners Julianne Moore (“Still Alice“) and J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash“).
