On the red carpet at the 5th Critics’ Choice TV Awards, John Ridley chatted with Gold Derby about his Oscar win for writing the screenplay for “12 Years a Slave” and his hot new Emmy contender “American Crime.”
Regarding the unique directorial decision to shoot “American Crime” in long takes, Ridley tells us, “I can’t say it’s a philosophy, like there’s a film theory behind it. For me, it was really, where was the emotion in the scene? And if you’re with somebody, why cut away from them? Why move away?”
