Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have premiered a video for their new song "Downtown," the first single from their upcoming second album, and they'll be performing it at this year's MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, but will their return effort match the success of their 2012 breakthrough album "The Heist"? MTV VMA cheat sheet: You should predict Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj …

"The Heist" was a big hit for the duo, producing several hit singles and winning them multiple awards. They claimed three prizes at the 2013 VMAs: Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Cinematography for "Can't Hold Us" and Best Message Video for "Same Love." A few months later they cleaned up at the Grammys, winning four: Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Thrift Shop," Best Rap Album for "The Heist" and Best New Artist, which made them a rare rap act to win that award.

But their success was followed by some backlash. Their Grammy victories came at the expense of rapper Kendrick Lamar, who had more critical support. Afterwards Macklemore fanned the flames by sending a text message to Lamar apologizing for the Grammy result, but many thought his public mea culpa was in bad form. More than a year later, are music fans eager to welcome them back?

Watch the video for "Downtown" below and then vote in our poll. Will the song win awards? Or does it indicate a possible sophomore slump for the breakthrough duo?
