Makeup & Hairstyling Guild Awards nominations: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Grand Budapest Hotel,’ …

Five of the seven semi-finalists for Best Makeup & Hairstyling at the Oscars reaped bids with the guild, which announced nominations in five film categories and 11 TV races Thursday, just hours before Oscar voting closes.

UPDATED: Experts’ Oscars predictions in 24 categories

Among the Oscar contenders for Best Makeup & Hairstyling, “Guardians of the Galaxy” reaped a leading three bids, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” picked up two while “Foxcatcher,” “Maleficent” and “The Theory of Everything” got one apiece.

While the guild snubbed Oscar contenders “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Noah,” it showered  “Into the Woods,” which did not make the cut with the academy, with three nominations.

Last year, “Dallas Buyers Club” won the Period/Character Makeup prize here before prevailing at the Oscars. One of its rival Oscar nominees, “Bad Grandpa,” claimed the Special Makeup Effects prize while the third Oscar contender, “The Lone Ranger,” was shut out.

These awards will be handed out on Feb. 14 at Paramount Studios. Makeup wiz and current contender Rick Baker (“Maleficent”) will be feted for his lifetime of achievement as will Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell.
