“I’ve been around a long time, so I don’t usually get intimidated by anybody,” admits “American Horror Story: Freak Show” newcomer Michael Chiklis exclusively to Gold Derby on the Paley Festival red carpet at the Dolby Theatre. “But I will say that first day on set, my very first scene was with Jessica Lange … and she’s quite regal.”
Chiklis continues his fanboy admiration of the dearly departing Lange, noting, “She has an incredibly powerful presence. I have to say, it took me a good half an hour to sort of get my heart rate down.” Watch our entire interview below.
Being an awards website, we just had to fill in Chiklis on his Emmy odds for “AHS: Freak Show.” According to Gold Derby’s combined predictions, he’s currently in our #2 spot to win Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor with 11/2 odds, just behind Bill Murray (“Olive Kitteridge“) with leading 14/5 odds.
This would be Chiklis’ second Emmy after winning Best Drama Actor in 2002 for “The Shield,” a first for network FX and cable television as a whole. “It would be thrilling” to be in the Emmy game again, he confesses.
“I just don’t like to think of it because I’m so superstitious. But if it happened, I’d be very thrilled and happy. Recognition from the academy and from your peers is always a welcome thing, obviously. Thanks for letting me know that, it’s nice.”
