At a recent Emmy event in Los Angeles for five-time champ “Modern Family,” three of the show’s kids — Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez — chatted with Gold Derby on the red carpet about the show’s Emmy wins and growing up on set.
Winter, who plays middle-child genius Alex Dunphy, says she’s been happy seeing Alex grow this season: “I feel really honored that they’re entrusting me with that kind of leverage on the show. It’s really amazing. They’ve written me so many amazing storylines. I mean, truly I love the things that they’ve been writing for me and I just feel really lucky.”
Gould, who plays not-so-genius Luke Dunphy, may enjoy his time as part of the family but says his favorite scene partner is his on-screen grandpa: “I love doing scenes with Ed [O’Neil]. He’s such an interesting guy to work with. He has so many great stories since he’s been in this business for so many years. I love being around him and picking up on things that he does and even getting advice from him.”
Rodriguez, who plays Manny Delgado on the show, tells us he can’t wrap his head around a potential sixth Emmy win. “I think really we’re just humble and so blessed to be able to be on a show that is even in the ranks of the shows that have won multiple Emmys before, and to hopefully one day maybe make history is mind-blowing.”
