Oscar calendar: Deadlines and dates for Indie Spirits, National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle …

On Tuesday, awards season kicks into high gear with the announcement of the Indie Spirit nominations. The winners of the 31st annual edition of these kudos will be revealed on Saturday, February 27, just one day before the Oscars.

After a brief break for Thanksgiving, the Gotham Awards get handed out on Monday, November 30. The Gothams and Spirits used to be bestowed by the East and West Coast branches of the same organization, the Independent Feature Project. Then in 2006, the Californians broke off from New York and three other IFP groups and formed Film Independent.

On Tuesday (December 1) the National Board of Review, which has a spotty record at crystalballing the Oscars, announces its winners while on Wednesday the New York Film Critics Circle gather for a marathon meeting to decide upon their best of the year.

In the following weeks leading up to the Jan. 8 deadline for Oscar nomination ballots, the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice and BAFTA Awards will announce nominations as will the actors, producers, writers and art directors guilds.

Below, we detail these key dates.
