News Nuggets: Will Ferrell could have hosted the most unusual Oscars ever?

Christopher Rosen reports that the 84th annual Academy Awards could have been an epic yet unusual event if Will Ferrell had his way. After Eddie Murphy dropped out as host a few months before in 2011, Ferrell proposed that he and Zach Galifianakis should emcee the Oscars with a twist: “We will host the Oscars if you do a campaign that you can’t find an Oscars host up until the last second. It’s going to be a surprise and we’ll walk out on stage. The whole premise of our hosting was that we were asked at the last second. So we’re always flustered. We don’t know the jokes. We don’t know where the cameras are. We do the entire show as if it’s unrehearsed.” Producers passed but did have the duo present Best Original Song that night. Huffington Post
