Oscars predictions: Experts vs. Editors battle in three top races

Last year, the Editors flubbed only one of the 24 categories — Animated Short — while the Experts missed that plus Original Screenplay (going with “American Hustle” over “Her) and Live Action Short. (See last year’s breakdown of the Experts track record here and that of the Editors here.)

This year, there is strong consensus between our 29 Oscar Experts and Gold Derby’s 7 Editors with the collective predictions of each group matching in 21 out of 24 categories, as detailed below.

However, there are three especially close categories where the Experts and Editors can’t agree on the frontrunner: Best Picture, Best Film Editing and Best Score. In each case, one group or the other is evenly split between two strong candidates:
