While 18 of our Oscars experts are predicting that Golden Globe champ Johann Johannsson will win Best Original Score for “The Theory of Everything,” seven of them expect BAFTA winner Alexandre Desplat to prevail for “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” This is the first Oscar bid for Johannson. Desplat has racked up six nominations to date but no wins; he also contends this year for “The Imitation Game.”
“The Theory of Everything” is the 4/9 favorite with 18 Experts backing it: Thelma Adams (ZEALnyc), Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Edward Douglas (Coming Soon), Scott Feinberg (Hollywood Reporter), Thom Geier, Michael Hogan (Vanity Fair), Scott Mantz (Access Hollywood), Mary Milliken (Reuters), Michael Musto (Out.com), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Kevin Polowy (Yahoo), Jenelle Riley (Variety), Christopher Rosen (Huffington Post), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Nicole Sperling (Entertainment Weekly), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Glenn Whipp (Los Angeles Times) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com).
“The Grand Budapest Hotel” has 4/1 odds with the support of seven Experts: Dave Karger (Fandango), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Steve Pond (The Wrap), Claudia Puig (USA Today), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily) and Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood).
“Interstellar” is in third place at 16/1. Hans Zimmer, who won this race in 1994 for “The Lion King,” contends for the 10th time. The only Expert predicting him to prevail is Mike Cidoni (Associated Press).
“The Imitation Game” is in the fourth spot with 50/1 odds for Desplat and last place is held by “Mr. Turner” composer Gary Yershon at 100/1.
