See ‘Outlander’ costumes entered for Emmy competition

Good news, “Outlander” fans and TV academy members: You don’t need to travel back in time 270 years to see the costumes being entered by Starz for Emmy consideration in 2015. If you live in Los Angeles, you can visit the Grove shopping center where they’re on display till May 31 in the Grand Lobby and fountain area.

The fine threads created for “The Wedding” episode by designer Terry Dresbach (Emmy winner for HBO’s “Carnivale”) are being entered in the race for Outstanding Costumes for a Period/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Movie. Two most notable costumes on display include the resplendent duds worn by both bride Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and groom Jamie (Sam Heughan) in episode 107 when they tied the knot in order to protect her from the fiendish grasp of British military mad dog “Black Jack” Russell.

Claire’s wedding dress is richly embroidered with foliage and falling leaves, trimmed with lace sleeves.

Jamie’s jacket is made of blue velvet and is draped with his family’s tartan, which is woven from gray and brown wool.

Also on view in the exhibition, titled “A Tartan Affair,” are 10 other costumes worn by key characters like Jack and Frank Randall. When the exhibit ends on May 31, the author of the “Outlander” book series, Diana Gabaldon, will make an appearance at Barnes & Noble at 2 p.m. PT.

  1. Terry Dreisbach created such beautiful pieces that emanate her love for Outlander. Rich detail and inspiring artistry such as this is a rarity and a treat for the senses.

  2. I’m trying to connect with the right person at STARZ to bring the costumes to the Phoenix Public Library for display during an author event. Can anyone help? I’ve reached out on Facebook, but any help would be appreciated, Kathy Husser, Phoenix Public Library Coordinator. Thank you.
