Dame Helen Mirren is royalty at the Screen Actors Guild. She proved it yet again on Wednesday by being the dominant force among all performers when SAG Awards nominations were announced. Mirren has the most noms of any individual this year with her three for ensemble and supporting work in “Trumbo” and lead role in “Woman in Gold.” During her career she has already prevailed five times and now has a total of 13 nominations.
Among the other interesting facts and figures for the television nominees:
Only six of this year’s 20 film acting nominees are first-timers at SAG: Brie Larson (“Room“), Rooney Mara (“Carol“), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies“), Sarah Silverman (“I Smile Back“), Jacob Tremblay (“Room”), and Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl“).
In the lead film categories, six nominees are previous SAG winners: Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”), Johnny Depp (“Black Mass“), Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs“), Mirren, and Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”).
Every lead and supporting SAG film winner in the past 20 years has also received an Oscar nomination for the same performance. In fact, all four of last year’s SAG champs also prevailed at the Academy Awards: Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”), Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”), Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”), and J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”).
Performers with film and televison nominations this year are: Louis C.K. (“Trumbo,” “Louie“), Idris Elba (“Beasts of No Nation,” “Luther“), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall“), and John Slattery (“Spotlight,” “Mad Men“).
The studio leader is Universal Pictures (6), followed by Bleecker Street (3), Paramount Pictures (3), The Weinstein Company (3), A24 (2), Broad Green Pictures (2), Focus Features (2), Netflix (2), Open Road (2), and Warner Bros. Pictures (2).
