Predicting this week's four eliminations on "So You Think You Can Dance" proved tricky; there were two expected ousters, but two surprise exits. Did you anticipate all of Monday night's results? Then you should make your predictions here at Gold Derby for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift certificate every week if you think you know who will win and lose.
Poor Ariana Crowder was let go from Team Street, as expected. She had landed in the bottom three every week up to this point, so 54% of users expected her luck to finally run out. However, another 26% of users predicted Jessica "J.J." Rabone to join her on the chopping block after landing in the bottom three last week, but she wasn't even in danger this time around.
Instead, Yorelis Apolinario was the second Team Street elimination, which must have been a rude awakening for her since she had never even been in danger before. Only 6% of users anticipated that result, giving her 16/1 odds.
There was an even bigger surprise on Team Stage. Derek Piquette was injured and unable to perform in last week's show, which automatically landed him in the bottom three this week. 47% of users thought that would spell disaster for him, but Twitter users unexpectedly saved him, even after watching him perform a hip-hop routine severely lacking in swagger.
Another 31% of users thought Kate Harpootlian would be sent home, and she was, but instead of being joined by Piquette, she was eliminated with Alexia Meyer, who, like Apolinario, had never been in the bottom three before.
Why didn't Twitter users save Meyer? Probably because they had just seen her in an oddly choreographed fish-themed burlesque routine that the judges liked even less than Piquette's unconvincing hip-hop performance. Only 8% of users foresaw Meyer's elimination, giving her 12/1 odds.
Of those, EmmyLoser had by far the highest points total (27,605), which makes him the top scorer for the week, and if he qualifies according to our contest rules, he will win our $100 prize. So how did he rack up all those points?
Simple: He was one of the few to predict Meyer's elimination. He locked in that choice when she had 50/1 odds, and he used his 500-point big bet on her, resulting in a 25,000-point payout. He also correctly predicted Crowder's elimination and that Piquette would be at the bottom but safe.
That illustrates just how important it is not only to make your predictions but to use your big bets wisely. You can place one bet of 500 points and two of 200 points. If you bet big on a long shot and get it right, that could be the difference between winning and losing our weekly predictions contest.
This week's results caused a major shift in our overall users' leaderboard. Sam Eckmann, who had been leading after three weeks of predictions, missed every result this week, dropping him to 10th place overall. Rising to the top is this week's predictions leader, EmmyLoser, with 50% accuracy for the season. He's actually tied with Jason Nolette with 50%, but EmmyLoser has more game points.
